The Best Diet Is…
By: Robert A. Schinetsky
It doesn’t matter if you’re 8% body fat or 28%, people are always searching for the “best” way to eat. What diet is going to bring them the results they’re seeking in performance, aesthetics, and/or health.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve discussed a few of the more well-known (“extreme”) diets that are popular right now, and in those discussions, we’ve explained why the keto diet sucks, and why low-fat diets aren’t the answer either. Basically, these two extremes of the nutritional philosophy spectrum are about as polar opposite as you can get, and aside from the fat they’re completely unsustainable and aren’t the panacea they were once touted to be, they’re not all that effective for maintaining a healthy physique or outlook on food.
So, that’s probably left you wondering:
“What is the best diet?”
We’ll tell you, and here’s the best part…it’s not going to force you to give up carbs. It’s not going to make you eliminate fats. It won’t even have you fasting for ridiculously long periods of the day. But that’s not the best part.
The best part about this new “ideal” diet is that it is absolutely free!
That’s right, we’re not going to charge you some outrageous amount of money, or ding you for a monthly subscription fee. The answer to your nutritional dilemmas will be solved right here, right now, all for a nominal fee of ZERO dollars.
The best diet is NO DIET at all!
Now, you’re probably confused as to what we mean by that statement, but we mean it. The key to long-term health and mental sanity is not jumping on any ridiculous, overly restrictive diet.
Food is fuel, but it is also meant to be enjoyable, satisfying, and comforting. Eating is a social experience, it’s meant to be a celebration of food, family, and friends. It’s not meant to be some stigma that has you huddled in a corner due to the restrictions imposed on you by some crazy ass diet.
Build your diet on a solid foundation of:
- Protein (chicken, beef, fish, shellfish, pork, eggs, dairy)
- Fat (olive oil, avocados, butter, etc.)
- Vegetables
- Fruits
- Whole grains
Focus on whole, real foods that don’t come in a package, box, or wrapper and that will solve 90% of your diet-related concerns.
Eating isn’t meant to be restrictive
Eating isn’t meant to be restrictive. “Dieting” is, and that’s why all those fad diets never work for more than a few days. Plus, recent research has actually shown “dieting” in the conventional sense actually leads to long-term weight gain.[1] Simply put, all of these fad diets are completely unsustainable.
The best diet is the one that you can stick to, and that means eating food you enjoy. Yes, you can still have carbs; you can have fats; you can even have the occasional scoop of ice cream.
Eating doesn’t have to be complicated. Gaining muscle, dropping fat, it all starts and ends with tracking your calories. Do that and you’ll be able to eat the foods you enjoy while getting the results you want!
