Ingredient Spotlight: 3D-PUMP Breakthrough

If you’ve been tuned into the supplement newswire the past couple of months, you’ve undoubtedly heard the buzz about an exciting new pump ingredient called 3DPump-Breakthrough.

But, what is it and what does it do?

Let’s discuss!

What is 3DPump-Breakthrough?

3DPump-Breakthrough is a revolutionary pump ingredient combining L-Citrulline, high-yield glycerol, and a standardized extract of Amla fruit (phyllanthus emblica).

L-Citrulline

Most of you reading this are well-acquainted with L-Citrulline. It’s an amino acid that converts to arginine and supports nitric oxide production (which aids blood flow and muscle pumps). Citrulline has also been shown to enhance exercise performance (particularly in resistance training protocols), boost power, reduce the onset of fatigue, and aid recovery.

Each 6g serving of 3DPump-Breakthrough (the supplier recommended dose) provides a full 3 grams of L-Citrulline.

Glycerol

Glycerol is another well-known commodity in pre workout supplements that serves as an osmolyte, which is a fancy way of saying that it encourages muscle cells to absorb more water. This increases cell volumization and cellular swelling, which not only enhances the pump but gives a fully, more shapely look to your muscles!

Amla Fruit

Amla (Indian gooseberry) has a long history of use in Indian medicine as a cardiotonic. It’s high in polyphenols and flavonoids (including pedunculagin, puniglucanin, emblicanin A, and emblicanin B) that are known to possess antioxidant activity and support cardiovascular health.

What Does 3DPump-Breakthrough Do?

We all know that citrulline is more than enough to get a good pump, and when used in tandem with glycerol, you’ve got the groundwork for a solid pump pre workout.

The question is -- does the addition of amla potentiate or enhance the muscle pump and fullness that can be had from more common pre workout pump ingredients. According to the results of a pilot study listed in the patent for 3DPump-Breaktrhough, the answer is a resounding YES!

The study, performed using resistance-trained men, investigated four different treatments:

  1. Placebo to establish baseline
  2. 1500mg of 65% glycerol
  3. 150mg of Amla fruit extract
  4. 1350mg of 65% glycerol + 150mg Amla fruit extract

Researchers had the men perform lower body workouts consisting of seated leg extensions and goblet squats (3 sets of 10-12 reps with 60 seconds of rest between sets and two minutes of rest between exercises).

To assess the cell volumization and muscle swelling effects of each treatment, they measured thigh circumference and performed DEXA scans immediately after the training session..

As expected, all treatments (even placebo) led to increases in leg size and lean body mass (LBM).

However, the glycerol + Amla combination significantly bested the other treatments (glycerol only, amla only, and placebo).

In fact, the glycerol + amla group increased their thigh circumference by an average of 2.21 centimeters and had an average increase of 693.1 gram in total body mass (including a 562.2 gram increase in leg mass)!

For reference, the placebo group experienced a 1.12 centimeter thigh increase and 30.4 gram increase in total body mass in the placebo group. The glycerol-only group experienced a 1.32 centimeter increase in thigh circumference, an average of 328.1 gram increase in leg mass, and an average total body mass increase of 98.3 grams.

Clearly, there is an additive effect of combining amla+glycerol and when you add L-Citrulline to the mix (already a proven pump ingredient), you have the makings for a true breakthrough when it comes to pump supplements.
